A New Thing

Isaiah 43:19 See I am doing a new thing…I am making a way in the desert…

Hey family and friends! I hope all of you are having a wonderful 2009 so far. It’s hard to believe that we are already 2 months into this new year. Our year has been great so far and full of adventure. I was privileged to go to India and Sri Lanka on a mission trip and I saw some incredible God-sized work going on in these countries. We traveled with Dr. Vararuchi Dalavai, Sr. Exec. VP, BCM International. We were able to witness a true movement of God and were inspired by the impact of this ministry as they have planted over 16,000 churches and seen over 400,000 believers baptized in the last 20+ years. Holly and the children managed pretty well while I was gone, except for one minor collision between Kate and Will and now after almost 2 months, the bruises on Kate’s face are almost gone.

We are so grateful to all of you for your prayers and support of our family and ministry in Arizona. We cannot fully express how much your partnership has meant to us, and how much of an investment you have made into our present and future ministry. I believe that in the coming years we will see the benefits of this season of life bearing much fruit for God’s kingdom. This would not have been possible without all of the gracious support that we have received from you!

The last 7 months have been a combination of excitement, frustration, joy, and endurance; but through it all, they have been months of growth. I believe God has been revealing Himself and His ways like never before. A good part of this growth has come through a period of silence in our life. To be honest I have been quite confused by this silence. We have prayed for direction on the next step in ministry, for wisdom in a location to plant a church and for other personal things, yet we have not felt God’s clear leading in any specific direction. However, a few weeks ago I woke up one morning and I read this and felt as though God had Henry Blackaby write this just for me…

The silence of God means that He is ready to bring into my life a greater revelation of Himself than I have ever known.’ Henry Blackaby  Experiencing God  p.94

God has been doing some powerful things in our lives here in Arizona and he has opened doors of opportunity that are greater than anything I imagined. As most of you know, I came to Phoenix with Vision Arizona to plant a church and thus have been serving an internship at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in preparation for that event. While here I have developed good relationships with various pastors from Vision Arizona and even more so with the staff here at Cornerstone. During the past months the team members from Vision Arizona have been discussing their desire to utilize the multi-site strategy to help reach the Phoenix area for Christ. Through this conversation Cornerstone has taken the lead and has now been in preparation for this likelihood for some months.

As this conversation at Cornerstone developed my name came up a number of times as a possible fit to lead this ministry, especially since I was involved with multi-site ministry in Chicago at Lakeview Church. Over the course of the last couple of months our pastor talked with both the leadership of Cornerstone as well as the pastors of Vision Arizona about the possibility of inviting me to come on staff at Cornerstone to help them launch a number of campuses around the Phoenix area.

So, in short, last week Cornerstone offered me the role of Multi-Site Pastor. After a lot of time seeking God in prayer and Bible study, as well as many conversations with friends and pastors all over the country, we feel that this is a door that God has opened for us. We believe that God is giving us the opportunity to impact Phoenix in a powerful way and help Cornerstone expand the kingdom of God. We moved to Arizona to start one church, but now we have the opportunity to launch 3-5 campuses in the next 3 years. This is truly a God-sized assignment that we have been offered.

So, you may be asking what does this transition look like? Over the course of the next few weeks we will begin the process of transitioning to a staff position at Cornerstone and they will begin to pick up insurance and retirement and then salary as we phase into this position. So as of March 1st we will no longer be raising support.

Again, I want to reiterate that we could never have had this opportunity apart from your support. Cornerstone is a great church averaging close to 6,000 in attendance every week. The opportunity to help them become a multi-site church is a great honor and one that we are very humbled to accept. There is also great responsibility involved and we feel more prepared than ever after being able to serve in this internship for the last seven months.

I am sure that there are questions spurred on by our decision and I encourage you to feel free to contact me and we can talk in more detail about this. Also, I will continue to email prayer updates and journal the progress of this opportunity through my website. We continue to desperately need prayer and have included a new prayer magnet in this letter to serve as a reminder to pray for this ministry. We praise God for all your prayers and gifts of support for our family. Already God has used you as a partner in ministry who has impacted the Phoenix metro area as well as other places in the world like India and Sri Lanka. I cannot wait to see all that God will do in the coming years. We pray God’s blessings on you as you continue to live for Him in 2009. May His grace and peace fill your lives and His Spirit reveal to you His ways as you follow step by step!

In Christ,
Aaron & Holly, Olivia, Kate, and Will
