Through the Fire

Tonight we hit the 6 week mark of Kate’s battle with cancer! In some ways it seems like just yesterday she was running and playing oblivious to this tumor, and then at the same time it seems like we have been fighting this war for a LONG, LONG time. Since the very beginning of this ordeal there has been one metaphor that has continually been on our hearts and in our prayers. Numerous times in the Bible we read about fire representing the trials and storms in our lives, and God’s great deliverance through the turmoil of our lives. The most famous example of this is found in Daniel 3, the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. The short version of the ‘cliff notes’ of this story is that 3 guys get in trouble, thrown into a fire, God shows up in the midst of the fire and delivers the young men unharmed. Everyone who sees this unfold reports this…

Daniel 3:27…They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.

That sounds crazy, I know! However, if there is the remotest possibility of it being true then I am going to plead with this God to allow my sweet little girl to come through her fire unharmed and unscorched. I do believe it’s true, call me crazy, but I trust and I think delivering from a brain tumor is a piece of cake compared to 3 guys in a fiery furnace.

Another passage that has been at the forefront of our prayers is this…

Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

So, there you have it! We are praying for the miraculous to happen and for total and complete deliverance. AND there is more, more to both of these stories and more to Kate’s story. God’s deliverance is never to just make us happy, but also to show others how GRRRREAT HE is. We pray that He will reveal His power and His glory through Kate’s journey just as He did through these scriptures.
